All versions of the Microsoft Windows XP operating system, including the Media Center Edition, require the entry of a 25-character product key during the installation process. Found on the back of the Windows XP installation disc case, this key acts as a piracy deterrent, since only one XP installation can be validated using a given key. If you need to change your product key for any reason, make use of the Registry Editor and Product Activation Wizard utilities already installed on your computer to deactivate the existing key and enter a replacement.
