Jess Franco's adult horror drama, originally titled 'Die Marquise von Sade', is presented here in 16:9 Anamorphic Widescreen, with just the original GERMAN LANGUAGE, and NO SUBTITLES). Regarded by many as another version of his classic film ' FEMALE VAMPIRE' with Lina Romay once again playing a woman who sucks the life force out her victims (only this time it's not blood she drinks !). Mixing horror, nudity and sex with much more explicit scenes, Franco pushes the boundaries between softcore and hardcore to breaking point (and indeed beyond in some scenes), but that's not to say this isn't a stylish and at times quite striking film, boasting some stunning scenery, an excellent soundtrack comprised of Walter Baumgartner's sitar-infused score, and of course tons of graphic nudity, not to mention the double delight of seeing a mostly naked Lina play two sisters, lonely aristocrat Miss Gray and her twin sister who's in an asylum. They share a strange bond. Miss Gray is rational but frigid while her sister is insane yet feels sexual pleasure for both. Also starring Franco regulars, Monica Swinn and Martine Stedil, this is a rarity well-worth watching....though not if you're easily offended.
